Information we collect
We collect account details you provide, such as your name, email address, handle, bio, location, and profile image. We also store content and activity you choose to create, including cheese tastings, ratings, notes, tasting locations, photos, follows, likes, comments, saved cheeses, reports, and blocks.
Authentication information
You may sign in with email, Apple, or Google. Authentication providers may give us an account identifier, verified email address, and name according to the permissions you approve. Apple may provide your name only during the first authorization.
How information is used
We use information to operate the cheese journal and community, maintain your cellar, calculate aggregated cheese ratings, moderate content, protect users, provide support, and improve reliability. We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-app advertising.
Visibility and sharing
Public tastings may appear in the community feed and on your public profile. Private tastings remain visible to you, although their rating may contribute to an aggregated community average without exposing your private tasting. Uploaded photos may be reviewed before public display.
Service providers
Supabase provides authentication, database, server-function, and file-storage infrastructure. Apple and Google process information when you choose their sign-in services. These providers process data according to their own terms and privacy policies.
Retention and deletion
Information is retained while your account is active and as reasonably needed to operate and secure the service. You can delete individual activity in the app. In-app account deletion removes your account and associated personal content, subject to limited retention when legally required or necessary to prevent fraud and abuse. Security
Data is transmitted using encrypted HTTPS connections. Access controls and platform security features are used to limit unauthorized access. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Children
By the Whey is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Your choices
You can edit your profile, choose tasting visibility, remove your content, block accounts, or delete your account from the app. You may contact us with privacy questions or requests.
Changes
We may update this policy as the service develops. The effective date above will be revised when material changes are made.
